Former Robert Morris Forward Selected in NBA G-League Draft

Former Robert Morris men’s basketball standout forward Markeese Hastings was drafted by the G-League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets, the Grand Rapids Gold, in the second round of the G-League Draft earlier this week.

Hastings became the first ever Robert Morris player to be selected in a NBA G-League draft.

In his lone season as a member of the Colonials — two years ago — Hastings earned All-Horizon Third Team honors after playing in and starting all 31 of the team’s games as he averaged 14.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51.5% from the floor.

Hastings posted double-digit scoring numbers in 23 of 31 games and finished the season with eight double-doubles.

While at Robert Morris, Hastings set his career-high in points (31) in a game against Detroit Mercy, which included a 17-for-17 line from the free throw line. That stat still remains as a Robert Morris program record.

Prior to his arrival in Moon Township, Hastings spent two seasons at Butler and then another two at Western Michigan.

He played in 17 combined games as a freshman and sophomore while at Butler but turned into a starter upon his arrival at Western Michigan, where he started 53 of 62 potential outings.

Following his tenure at Robert Morris, Hastings chose to go the international route for a season as he played for Hapoel Kfar Qasem of the Israel-National League before playing for Cherno More Ticha Varna of the Bulgarian NBL League.

While Robert Morris does not have an extensive track record of producing professional basketball players, Hastings could be the former player that gets the ball rolling, especially after the season in which Andy Toole and his team put together last year with guys like Alvaro Folgueiras and Amarion Dickerson who could end up playing professionally one day.
