The Robert Morris women’s basketball program has played challenging non-conference schedules in the two seasons since Chandler McCabe was hired as head coach. The 2026-27 non-conference slate appears to be no different as the latest opponent to be revealed is a Power-Five program that has achieved postseason success in many of its recent seasons.

Robert Morris will travel to Morgantown on Dec. 15 for a non-conference contest against West Virginia, sources told Robert Morris Sports Now and later confirmed by the Mountaineers’ official non-conference schedule release which was released on Tuesday.

Despite playing just one time since the early 2000’s, Robert Morris and West Virginia have faced off against each other 18 times since the all-time series started back in 1981. West Virginia has dominated the all-time series as the Mountaineers own an impressive 17-1 record against Robert Morris. The Colonials’ lone victory was an 88-80 overtime win back during the 1994-95 season.

This is the first meeting between the two programs since the 2022-23 season and the first during McCabe’s tenure as head coach at Robert Morris.

West Virginia has made NCAA Tournament appearances in four of the last five seasons, and three-straight times under fourth-year head coach Mark Kellogg. In fact, since Kellogg was hired prior to the 2023-24 season, West Virginia has a combined record of 78-23 which includes a 28-win season a year ago which netted the Mountaineers a four-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the storied success of West Virginia, especially under Kellogg, the Mountaineers return just two players from last year’s team and are viewed as a young but promising team after the massive roster turnover.

West Virginia joins Duquesne, Eastern Michigan and Illinois-Chicago as the only known non-conference opponents that Robert Morris will face as part of the Colonials’ 2026-27 schedule.
