Robert Morris Star Helps France Claim FIBA U20 EuroBasket Championship
While the dog days of summer continue to roll on as many await the return of college basketball, one Robert Morris women’s basketball player was making a name for herself overseas at the 2026 FIBA U20 EuroBasket championship.
Myriam Traore, along with two other NCAA athletes, Ball State’s Aniss Tagayi and Kansas State’s Tèa Clèante, helped power France to an undefeated championship run and the country’s sixth U20 EuroBasket championship.
Traore transferred to Robert Morris last offseason after spending a year at Sienna, and ended up as the Colonials’ second-leading scorer while also earning All-Horizon Third Team honors.
She averaged 11.7 points at a 46% rate and 5.0 rebounds per game over her first year under Robert Morris head coach Chandler McCabe, both of which were improvements from her freshman season at Sienna.
While she was not tasked with being one of France’s go-to players like she figures to be this coming season for Robert Morris, Traore made sure to make her impact felt whenever she got onto the floor for her home country.
Through the impressive 7-0 run to the 2026 FIBA EuroBasket Championship, Traore averaged 2.6 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists while recording a steal and three blocks.
“We couldn’t be more proud of what Myriam has accomplished with the French U20 National Team,” Chandler McCabe said to the Horizon League. “Winning a European championship was a goal she set for herself, and to see her achieve it through her hard work, commitment and passion for the game is incredibly rewarding.”
Not only did Traore achieve a personal goal of hers, she helped shine some national spotlight onto Robert Morris and the Colonials’ basketball program in the process.
“She represented her country with tremendous pride while also representing Robert Morris in the best possible way on an international stage,” McCabe continued. “Experiences like this not only speak to the caliber of player she is, but also the person she is. We are thrilled to celebrate this incredible achievement with her and can’t wait to have her back on campus as she brings that championship experience into our program.”
After a sophomore season in which she earned All-League nods, Traore will be a focal point in McCabe’s gameplans this upcoming season as the third-year head coach hopes to bring a Horizon League championship back to Moon Township.
