First Non-Conference Opponent Revealed for Robert Morris Basketball
Scheduling is harder than it seems for some college basketball programs, especially for respected and proven programs such as Robert Morris. It was nearly the end of August by the time that the Colonials’ full 11-game non-conference schedule was released last offseason.
While this offseason will likely follow a similar timeline in regard to scheduling, the Colonials now know the date and location of at least one of their non-conference matchups. Robert Morris’ first confirmed non-conference contest is a return game against the University of Illinois-Chicago on Nov. 6.
Robert Morris defeated UIC in an early season non-conference contest last season by the score of 88-74. It was the first time that the Colonials matched up against the Flames on the hardwood since they departed the Horizon League following the 2021-22 season. It was also the first time that Robert Morris ever beat UIC as Andy Toole’s squads went 0-4 over the two seasons that the Colonials and Flames shared a conference.
UIC is fresh off of a Missouri Valley Conference Championship appearance as the Flames were just one game away from an NCAA Tournament last offseason.
The Flames have continued to improve and get better each season head coach Rob Ehsan who is entering his third season on the job. After a pair of 12-win seasons prior to Ehsan’s arrival, the Flames increased their win total to 17 and then 19 over the past two seasons. Ehsan has used that success to attract a some intriguing players this including former Top-100 recruit Gabe Cupps.
Robert Morris will likely take its timing crafting and releasing the rest of its non-conference schedule, especially considering that the athletic department is currently going through a leadership transition. Although, as other programs release their schedules throughout the summer, the Colonials’ 2026-27 non-conference schedule will continue to slowly piece itself together.
