The women’s basketball program at Robert Morris saw immediate success under head coach Chandler McCabe in just her first year as a head coach and only looks to build off of last year’s momentum.

After McCabe saw eight of her players graduate just a few days ago, she lost another eight players to the transfer portal following the season. Despite all of that, McCabe and her staff quickly reloaded the roster as it currently sits at 14 scholarship players.

Since the staff has solidified next year’s roster, it opened up some time to start looking at some potential future Colonials as they offered a local standout earlier this week.

McCabe and her assistant Laryn Edwards extended an offer to South Fayette guard Ella Vierra on Monday, according to her account.

Vierra is a 5-foot-10 guard who just wrapped up her freshman season at South Fayette and also stars for Western PA Bruins.

While Vierra was not a regular starter for South Fayette this past season, she was often one of the first players off of the bench as she helped lead the school to a 29-2 record, a WPIAL title and its first ever state championship.

South Fayette is expected to start Vierra next season, along with four other players who hold Division-I offers, including one with family ties to Robert Morris. Vierra’s teammate, Juliette Leroux, is the younger sister of Ava Leroux, who is an incoming transfer.

Juliette, a Class of 2026 star, also holds an offer from Robert Morris.

The Bruins to Robert Morris pipeline has already started as many of the Colonials’ incoming transfers played for the AAU program under current assistant coach Eddie Benton while in high school.

Vierra also recently picked up offers from Duquesne and Kent State. As she shifts into a starting role as a sophomore next season, more college interest is sure to arise but to the Colonials’ credit, they were one of the first to offer which could go a long way in getting her to eventually commit to Bobby Mo.

While Vierra still has three more years of high school basketball to play and remains uncommitted, it is a good sign that the Colonials’ staff is interested in another talented local product as McCabe continues her quest of building Robert Morris into a Horizon League powerhouse.
