Robert Morris was already set to have one of the strongest backcourts in the Horizon League next season, but after Andy Toole’s latest transfer portal commitment, the Colonials’ rotation of guards got even deeper.

The latest guard to enter the fray is Cal State Fullerton transfer Kiwane Garris Jr., according to his Instagram account.

His commitment comes just days after he visited Robert Morris.

Garris, the son of former NBA and overseas professional Kiwane Garris Sr., excelled during his freshman season at Cal State Fullerton. He played in 29 games and averaged 16.1 minutes per game last year.

Garris scored double-digit points in 11 games, 17+ points in seven games and posted a season and career-high 22 points in his debut.

Garris was not only a scorer and playmaker as a freshman as he averaged 8.2 points and 3.4 rebounds, he was an efficient shooter as he shot 49% from the field and 43% from three-point range.

Landing Garris is a gigantic recruiting win for Toole and Robert Morris as he was drawing interest from many high-major and mid-major programs in the portal. Some of the programs that inquired about him include Michigan, Georgia Tech, Oregon among many others.

His commitment also marks the second-straight offseason in which Toole snatched up a transfer from Cal Fullerton as last year’s starter Kaleb Brown also came to the Colonials from the west coast university.

He is set to join a loaded backcourt that features Darius Livingston, Ta’Zir Smith and fellow incomer Ace Valentine, a transfer from UMBC.

Regardless of if Garris assumes a starting role or is one of the first guys off of the bench next season, he will surely play a big role in what Toole wants to do offensively.

With the addition of Garris, coupled with the two returners, the transfer, and two incoming freshman guards, it would appear as if the guard position is set for next season.

The next step for Toole and his staff is to bring in some wings and forwards as Eddie Cooke III and Samuel Obenjo are the only two scholarship players in their respective position groups.
