MOON TWP, Pa. — The latest domino to fall sealed the fate of the Robert Morris men’s basketball roster as it is now down to just one returning scholarship player.

Redshirt freshman forward Maurio Hanson Jr. was the last scholarship player from the Colonials’ Horizon League Championship roster to announce his plans for next season and beyond. He revealed to Robert Morris Sports Now on Tuesday morning that he is officially in the portal.

Hanson appeared in just four games for the Colonials this past season. He scored his first collegiate bucket in a regular-season game against IU Indy. In that game, he played a career-high seven minutes and went 1-of-5 from the field but he did haul in five rebounds including three on the offensive glass.

Hanson, a native of Charlotte, committed to Robert Morris out of high school over other offers that included Appalachian State, Charlotte, Eastern Carolina, Georgia State, Hampton, Kennesaw State, Murray State, N.C. A&T, Queens, South Florida and Texas A&M among others.

Hanson joined a long list of Colonials in the transfer portal as Kam Woods, D.J. Smith, Josh Omojafo, Amarion Dickerson, Alvaro Folgueiras, Dilen Miller, Antallah Sandlin’El and Justice Williams have all entered the portal since the season wrapped up.

On top of those departures, the Colonials additionally lost role players such as Chris Ford and Ismael Plet due to graduation. All of that combined equates to 11 of the 12 scholarship players from the 2024-25 season are officially off of the team less than a month after playing in the NCAA Tournament.

The only scholarship player remaining on the roster did play a key role in the Colonials’ magical season. Last week, wing player Ryan Prather Jr. announced his intentions to return to Moon Township for another season.

Now that the dust is finally settled following the Horizon League Championship season, head coach Andy Toole has his work cut out for him as he basically looks to build a whole new roster.
