Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole has adapted to the new college basketball landscape, and the Horizon League at that, quite well. Both started to change around the same with the Colonials making the jump in conferences in 2020 and NIL bursting onto the scene in 2021.

While it took him and the program some years to catch back up after multiple stellar years in the Northeast Conference and then a down period once they joined the Horizon League, the success that the program has enjoyed over the last two seasons indicate that Toole has cracked the code once again.

Toole has morphed Robert Morris into an attractable destination for potential transfers and high school players alike, which is evident by the repeated success on both fronts over the last handful of recruiting cycles.

They hope to continue their high hit rate with this year’s class which just grew by one as a top-scoring high school guard from the state of Illinois committed to the program.

6-foot-3 William Occomy out of at Lindblom High School, which is located in Chicago, announced his commitment to Robert Morris via Instagram on Tuesday.

Occomy had a solid junior season but elevated his game to an All-State caliber level as a senior. His points-per-game jumped from 15.5 as a junior to 24.8 as a senior which was best for fifth in the state of Illinois.

He managed to raise his shooting percentage from 41% to 44% and his three-point shooting percentage from 30% to 37% between his junior and senior seasons.

Occomy becomes the second high school or prep-year guard to commit to Robert Morris this offseason, and third overall incoming freshman guard from the recruiting class as he joins Josh Jackson and recent commit Lukas Sloane.

Toole has gone heavy on freshman guards this recruiting cycle, but it should not be shocking to see after the success that Darius Livingston Jr. experienced last season as he eventually stepped into the starting point guard role for the Colonials and be named to the Horizon League All-Freshman team.

Despite a deep high school recruiting class at the guard position and a stellar week with three big-time transfer portal additions, Robert Morris still has some work to do as Toole and his staff attempt to put their final touches on next season’s roster.
