MOON TWP, Pa. — The pieces are starting to fall in place for Robert Morris after it lost 11 scholarship players from its Horizon League Championship to the transfer portal.

Head coach Andy Toole and his staff received a commitment from Clarion transfer guard Cam Kearney on Saturday, per his X account.

Kearney was apart of a three-player group that committed to the Colonials on Saturday as they also added Louisiana Monroe transfer guard Ta’Zir Smith and another player that has yet to be revealed.

The 6-foot-6 guard played his first three collegiate seasons at Division-II Clarion. Kearney earned Second-Team All-PSAC honors in his sophomore season before elevating his game to a First-Team All-PSAC level this past season.

Kearney averaged 21.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this past season for the Golden Eagles and became their first first-team player since 2011. He shot 50.2% from the field and 46.3% from three-point range this past season.

Kearney showed his ability to score at the Division-I level when the Golden Eagles took on Syracuse in a exhibition this past season in which he scored a team-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field.

Kearney improved as a shooter in each of his three seasons with Clarion as his points per game jumped from 14.0 during his freshman year to 16.6 in his sophomore season before leading the Golden Eagles with 21.2 points per game as a junior.

His shooting splits also improved year-after-year as he went from shooting 40.9% from the field as a freshman to over 50% as a junior. That translated to his three-point shooting as well as during his freshman season he made just 30.9% from behind the arc.

After he entered the transfer portal, it was reported that over 45 Division-I programs reached out to Kearney before he ultimately chose Robert Morris.

Kearney stands at 6-foot-6 which means that he will likely slot into the Colonials’ system as a wing player similarly to Ryan Prather Jr., who happens to be the only scholarship player from this past season to announce his return to Robert Morris.

With Kearney and Smith joining Prather, the Colonials have three quality shooters to build the rest of the roster around.

After the additions of Saturday, Toole’s roster is finally coming together but there is still a long road ahead for him and his staff before they can call the roster a true “team.”
