Robert Morris Lands D2 Transfer Albert Vargas

After losing nine players from its Horizon League Championship roster to the transfer portal, Robert Morris is quietly reloading in hopes of making another trip to the Big Dance next season as it added its third commitment from a transfer portal player this recruiting cycle on Sunday.
Despite taking a visit to Hofstra to begin the weekend, Southern Connecticut State (D2) transfer Albert Vargas made his way to Hoop Township for a visit with head coach Andy Toole and his staff where they sold him on the program enough to get a commitment from him on the same day.
The 5-foot-10 guard played just one season for the Owls and averaged 17.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 42% from the field and 40.8% from three-point range. In his lone season as an Owl, Vargas started 26 games and averaged 32.1 minutes per game.
Prior to his only season with Southern Connecticut, Vargas played two seasons at NJCAA member Monroe University. He played sparingly as a freshman before he stepped into a starting role in his second season when he averaged 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
This is not the first time that Toole and his staff turned to the Division-II level for help as last year they brought in Gannon transfer Josh Omojafo who enjoyed success at the Division-I level for the Colonials this past season.
Additionally, one of the two commits from Saturday comes from the Division-II ranks as Clarion transfer Cam Kearney also announced his intentions on joining the Colonials next season.
On top of adding Vargas and Kearney, Toole retained Ryan Prather Jr. from last year’s squad and got a commitment from Louisiana Monroe transfer guard Ta’Zir Smith. All of the combined, Toole now has a solid guard/wing rotation set up for next season but is still in desperate need of forward help.
The addition of Vargas brings even more starting experience and another consistent shooter to the Colonials’ roster.
While we know the identity of three commits so far, there is a fourth that has yet to be revealed. Whether it is a forward or another guard/wing player, Toole is well on his way to reshaping his roster.
