Robert Morris Softball Clinches Spot in Horizon League Championships

The Robert Morris softball team has won six of its seven in-league series to this point in the year and already clinched a spot in the Horizon League Championships because of the success.
The Colonials sit firmly in second-place of the Horizon League as they own an overall record of 22-14 and a league record of 14-6.
Despite having one more Horizon League series remaining this season — against top-seeded Cleveland State — the Colonials have already locked up their spot in the six-team tournament that will start on May 7.
This season marks the fifth-straight season that the Colonials will play in the Horizon League Championships. Robert Morris clinched its first bye in the tournament in 2023 and made a run to the championship game in 2022 when they also achieved their first 30-win season under head coach Jexx Varner.

After starting the season at 4-9, Robert Morris has been on a tear as they won 18 of its last 23 games. The surge has been the result of a historic season from the plate.
The Colonials lead the Horizon League in team batting average (.303), runs (223), home runs (37), RBIs (202) among many other offensive stats.
While the offense carried them through the first half of their surge, the Colonials’ pitching has come around as of late as the staff has the second best ERA (4.35) in the entire league.
The Colonials have just one more Horizon League series to play during the regular season but they still have a total of nine games left before the start of the Horizon League Championships.
With the total amount of games left, the Colonials still have the chance to dethrone Cleveland State atop of the regular season standing while also having the chance to secure the program’s second 30-win season under Varner.
The Colonials return to action on Tuesday when they will host Mercyhurst for a doubleheader before they head to Cleveland for a three-game series against the Vikings on Friday.
