Robert Morris commit, former ULM guard Ta'Zir Smith -- ULM Athletics

MOON TWP, Pa. — Robert Morris is finally starting to reload its roster after losing 11 scholarship players from its Horizon League Championship to the transfer portal.

Head coach Andy Toole and his staff received a commitment from Louisiana Monroe transfer guard Ta’Zir Smith, per JUCORecruiting.com.

Smith was apart of a three-player group that committed to the Colonials on Saturday but is the only one that announced his intentions to this point.

The 6-foot-3 guard transferred to Louisiana Monroe last offseason after enjoying a strong season at the JUCO level. Smith did not record any stats this past season for the Warhawks and transfers to Robert Morris with two years of eligibility remaining.

Two seasons ago, Smith starred at Pearl River Community College, an NJCAA member, where he averaged 19.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists per game. Smith shot 44.2% from the field and 36.2% from three-point range during the 2023-24 season.

Prior to his lone season at Pearl River, Smith played his freshman season at another JUCO college. While at State Fair Community College, Smith averaged 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as he shot 43.8% from the field and 37.6% from behind the arc.

Despite not playing this past season, Smith showed his ability to improve as a shooter over his first two seasons at the JUCO level.

The Colonials managed to retain just one of its scholarship players from this past season but luckily for them, he was apart of the main rotation during their championship run.

With Smith joining Ryan Prather Jr., it gives the Colonials. two quality shooters to build the rest of the roster around.

Once the other two commits from Saturday are revealed, we will know more about how Toole wants his next roster to look like.

Regardless, Toole and his staff managed to lock up an experienced guard who has the potential to step in as a starter for the Colonials on day one.
