The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team continued to tear through their opponents as they laid claim to their sixth-straight victory this past weekend and remained atop of the Northeast Conference.

The Colonials are coming off of a dominant 14-4 win over Cleveland State in which goalkeeper Nate Fechter surrendered just three goals in 51 minutes while making 10 saves and sporting a 76.9 save percentage.

Due to his performance against the Vikings, the NEC announced Fechter as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second time that he won the weekly award this season.

The Colonials will likely enter the tournament as a No. 1 or No. 2 seed as they sit with an overall record of 9-4 and a 6-0 record within the NEC. Robert Morris is a game ahead of second-place Le Moyne, who they play in the regular season finale on Saturday.

With a win over Le Moyne, the Colonials will win the conference title outright.

Not only is it bragging rights to be the No. 1 seed from the regular season, it pays dividends to be the regular season champion as the highest seed remaining in the tournament continues to host games. Only the top-four regular season teams make the NEC Tournament field.

The Colonials have won the NEC Championship twice before as they went back-to-back in 2018 and 2019. The Colonials departed the NEC following the 2020 season for the ASUN where they won that conference tournament once before returning to the NEC as a lacrosse member this season.

The NEC Tournament begins on Thursday, May 1 with the opening round games being played at the highest remaining seeds. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 3.
