Robert Morris WBB Shuts Down St. Francis’ Second-Half Comeback Attempt
With St. Francis moving its athletics to the Division-III level after this season, the Robert Morris women’s basketball program made its likely final ever road trip out to Loretto on Thursday night for one last non-conference showdown between the old NEC rivals.
After the Colonials stormed out to a 17-point halftime lead, the Red Flash threw a second-half counter but it was ultimately not enough to keep Chandler McCabe’s squad from improving to 3-0 on the season following the 71-61 win.
While the team’s steady contributors, Aislin Malcolm (11 points) and Bailey Kuhns (10 points), each totaled double-digits, it was a coming out party for a pair of fellow newcomers.
Eva Levingston paced the Colonials with 18 points and eight rebounds while Myriam Traore provided 15 points and five rebounds off of the bench.

The first few minutes of the first quarter was the Kuhns show as her first bucket of the game gave Robert Morris a 7-2 lead, which eventually turned into a 12-6 lead after her second make of the game.
The Red Flash responded with a 7-0 run and claimed their first lead of the game at 13-12.
After the teams traded a two each, the Red Flash led by the score of 15-14 at the 3:49 mark of the first quarter. The Colonials responded with a 10-0 run over the final few minutes of the quarter and took a 24-15 lead into the second quarter.
Traore scored 7 points during the Colonials’ 10-0 quarter-ending run while Levingston added the other 3 points.
The Colonials went on a 7-0 run early in the second quarter to extend their lead out to a score of 33-19. The run was capped off on two-consecutive makes by Levingston.
The Colonials eventually grew their lead to 18 points by the end of the second quarter as they led by the score of 43-26 as the halftime buzzer sounded.
After Robert Morris and St. Francis traded a pair of buckets to open the third quarter, the Red Flash begun to chip away at the Colonials’ double-digit lead.
The Colonials’ once 18-point lead shrunk to just 10 points by the 5:38 mark of the third quarter.
The Colonials hung onto the double-digit lead over the final five minutes as they lead by the score of 54-44 at the start of the fourth.
While the Red Flash made up eight points of ground in the third, another surge in the fourth pulled them even closer to pulling off the comeback.
After a pair of free throws by Levingston with 7:32 left put the Colonials back up by 13 points, the Red Flash went on an 8-0 run and trailed by just 5 points with about five minutes left.
When the score became close, the Colonials leaned on Levingston as she answered the Red Flash run with a personal 4-0 run of her own, which gave her team some cushion over the final handful of minutes.
Following the win in Loretto, Robert Morris returns home to take on another in-state rival early next week as it plays host to Duquesne on Tuesday evening before heading crosstown to take on Pitt on Saturday afternoon.
