More success within the Robert Morris athletic department.
The men’s and women’s basketball programs aren’t the only sports programs at Robert Morris winning a lot of games. On Friday, the RMU softball team continued their winning ways with a Horizon League doubleheader sweep of Green Bay.
The Colonials started the day with a 4-2 win and then followed that up by winning 8-2. With those victories, Robert Morris improved their record in the Horizon League to 4-1 and 10-9 overall. Robert Morris has now won 6 straight games, during which they’ve outscored opponents, 47-17.
In Game 1, standouts for Robert Morris were pitcher Madison DeVault who twirled a complete game, striking out a career-high 13 batters, while throwing 107 pitchers.
Offensively, Anna Resnik clubbed a homerun in the 1st inning, while Logan Black led the team with 2 hits. Kaylyn Hopt, Courtney Poulich and Resnick collected RBIs for RMU in Game One.
In Game 2, the good pitching continued and the RMU offense got it going with 8 runs.
Freshman Mary Brant got things going in the first inning with an RBI single. Robert Morris then blew the game wide open in the 3rd highlighted by a 3-run homerun by Brant.
In the 7th inning, Poulich came through with an RBI triple and Brant then delivered her second home run of the game.
What a day for Brant as the 2 HR and 5 RBI were both career highs. On the season, the freshman from Ohio now has collected 18 hits and 16 RBI.
All those runs made it easier for RMU pitcher Madelyn Coleman, who went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 6 batters. Kaitlyn Molitoris came on to pitch a scoreless 7th inning.
The RMU softball team returns to the field this afternoon and will look for the series sweep.
