Robert Morris Men’s Basketball Learns Opponents for Scout Jacksonville Classic

With the college basketball season just around the corner, many programs around the country are busy finalizing their schedules and starting official practices. Robert Morris is no different as the Colonials enter year 17 under head coach Andy Toole.

The Horizon League unveiled the Colonials’ conference schedule earlier this month, and select non-conference games have been confirmed throughout the past couple of weeks, but the program has yet to announce an official non-conference schedule.

That official announcement should be imminent after Robert Morris learned who its two opponents for the program’s scheduled multi-team event will be. It was previously announced the Colonials were one of seven participants in the fifth-annual Scout Jacksonville Classic, but no official matchups were announced until Wednesday.

According to the official X account of the Scout Jacksonville Classic, Robert Morris will play New Mexico State on November 22nd followed by Lamar on November 24th.

The rest of the Scout Jacksonville Classic field includes Illinois-Chicago, Miami (OH), Ohio and Rice.

The non-conference portion of any program’s schedule is always exciting as programs can renew old rivalries that no longer get traditionally played or schedule fresh opponents that will not be seen again for some time after the current season.

Robert Morris managed to load its non-conference schedule up with a little bit of both. Old rivalries against program’s such as Duquesne and Monmouth are featured while the more rare opponents include programs such as Arkansas and Nevada among many others.

As for Robert Morris’ matchups against New Mexico State and Lamar, there is little history there. Robert Morris has only played against New Mexico State once in program history, an 81-71 loss back during the 2015-2016 season, while Lamar is a first-time foe for the Colonials.
