Robert Morris Softball Climbs to Top of the Horizon Behind League-Leading Offense

MOON TWP, Pa. — The Robert Morris softball team is used to winning under head coach Jexx Varner who is currently in his seventh season as the leader of the Colonials.
Varner, a graduate of Robert Morris, started his coaching career out in 2008 as an assistant coach for the Colonials where he stayed for two seasons before he left to pursue other coaching opportunities.
Varner re-joined the Colonials as an assistant coach in 2017 before he was promoted to his current role in 2019. Since, he has built the program into an annual contender in the Horizon League.
The Colonials have made three consecutive appearances in the Horizon League Championships, clinched its first bye in the tournament in 2023 and made a run to the championship game in 2022 when they also achieved their first 30-win season under Varner.
After a rough start to this season, the Colonials are surging once again as they are winners of 11 of their last 12 games and are in a tie for first place atop of the Horizon League standings.
Robert Morris Sports Now managed to talk to Varner this week about the team’s recent success and what it can lead to down the stretch run of the season.
