The Robert Morris softball team turned their season around in the last three weeks as they have won 13 of their last 14 games and are now firmly in position to contend for the top seed as they sit just about a month out from the Horizon League Championships.

The Colonials’ offense has fueled the recent streak of winning with four players hitting over .300 but there was one that stuck out the most over the last week and that was freshman Mary Brant.

Brant earned the Horizon League Player of the Week award after hitting walk-off hits in each of the Colonials’ victories over Northern Kentucky in last Friday’s doubleheader. In the first game, Brant doubled home two runners, the game’s tying and winning runs, while she singled home the game-winning run in the second game.

In total last week, Brant went 5-for-12 with a homer, four RBIs and four runs scored in the two matchups with the Norse and the midweek game against Pitt.

On top of winning her first Player of the Week award, Brant is currently ranked second in batting average (.390), first in slugging percentage (.883), and first in OPS (1.317), third in RBIs (28), second in doubles (8), and tied for first in both triples (3) and home runs (8).

Brant is in her freshman season at Robert Morris where she chose to extend her softball and academic career following her graduation from Poland Seminary which is located in Poland, Ohio.

Brant is the third Colonial player to earn Horizon League weekly honors in consecutive weeks and sixth overall this season. Madison DeVault, Madelyn Coleman, Courtney Poulich and Anna Resnik all earned weekly league honors this season.

The Colonials have enjoyed success behind the combined efforts from that core of players this season as the team’s record just jumped to 17-10 overall and 9-2 in league play.

The Colonials return to play on later today when they take on Youngstown St. in a doubleheader before closing out the three-game conference series tomorrow afternoon. Robert Morris has four more Horizon League series and 18 overall games remaining in the regular season.
