Robert Morris football went through a bit of a revival last season.

The Colonials re-joined the Northeast Conference prior to the start of the year and went on to start the season with a 6-3 record which put them right in the thick of the NEC Champions discussion for a few weeks.

While the Colonials ultimately finished with a 7-5 record and finished in third place of the conference, it was a successful first season back in the NEC. The breakout season was fueled by the historic level of play from its defense as the Colonials’ defense finished the season among one of the best in all of college football.

The defense ranked inside of the top-35 in sacks (9th), defensive touchdowns (9th), tackles for loss (14th), scoring defense (17th), third-down conversions (30th) and total defense (32nd).

While it was a combined effort from all 11 defensive players, one player that showed up time and time again was defensive back Rob Carter Jr., who currently plays for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.

After Carter went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens invited Carter to their rookie mini-camp. He attended the camp but the Ravens decided to not sign him to an NFL contract.

That experience led him to exploring other options to extend his football career which ultimately led him to signing with the BC Lions.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and Carter snagged his first career interception as a professional football player. The interception came during a 27-14 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

On the play, the Lions’ defense pressured Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros, who forced the throw down the left sideline which ultimately ended up in the waiting arms of Carter.

Carter played his final two collegiate seasons at Robert Morris where he even went viral for his ridiculous interception against Utah State in the Colonials’ 2024 season opener. He amassed 66 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and five interceptions  across 22 games.

He hauled in four of his five interceptions as a senior and even started to play on the offensive side of the ball by the end of the season as he made two catches for 12 yards. Additionally, Carter excelled as a kick returner and even scored a kick return touchdown against Central Connecticut State this past season.

Prior to his time at Robert Morris, Carter attended the University of Virginia at Wise, where he played in 22 games and recorded 77 tackles while starring on special teams.

The more that Carter continues to make a name for himself in the professional ranks of football, the better it is for an FCS program such as Robert Morris.
