MOON TWP, Pa. — Robert Morris went 15-5 in league play and won its first ever Horizon League regular season title which clinched the top seed for the Colonials as they marched towards the conference tournament.

After enjoying a bye in the opening round of the 2025 Horizon League Tournament, the Colonials host one final home game as they welcome Wright St. into the UPMC Events Center for a quarterfinal matchup.

Wright St. beat IU-Indy in the opening round of the tournament but were the lowest remaining seed which pitted them against the top-seeded Colonials.

Robert Morris and Wright St. met twice this season with each team claiming a victory on their home court. The Colonials downed the Raiders by the score of 75-72 in January while the Raiders claimed revenge in early February as they beat the Colonials by the score of 66-64.

In the Colonials’ loss to the Raiders, Robert Morris held an eight-point lead with just over two-and-a-half minutes left but failed to score again as Wright St. used a 10-0 run to close out the comeback and the game.

The Raiders victory over the Colonials on Feb. 2 is the last time that Robert Morris suffered a loss. The win snapped Robert Morris’ six-game winning streak at the time but since that day, the Colonials have rattled off seven-straight wins.

A deciding factor in each of the first two meetings was the production of the Horizon League Player of the Year, Alvaro Folgueiras. He scored a team-high 16 points in the Colonials win over the Raiders in January but registered just 6 points in their loss to Wright St. in February.

While Folgueiras is the key clog in the Colonials system, they have a supporting cast that features the league’s Defensive Player of the Year Amarion Dickerson and second-team All-League guard Kam Woods.

Dickerson, in his first season with the Colonials, averaged 13.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game while Woods also had a standout year despite his rough shooting splits of 37/61/28. He averaged a team-high 14.6 points and 5.1 assists per game while playing an average of 35.5 minutes per contest.

While the Raiders have a losing record, they are good enough to compete with the Colonials as the first two meetings were decided by a combined five points.

In those games, the Raiders received big-time production from Brandon Noel, who was a preseason Player of the Year candidate. In the two games against Robert Morris this year, Noel averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Over the course of the year, Noel paced the Raiders with 19.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

In addition to Noel, the Raiders received quality play this season from senior guard Alex Huibregtse and senior forward Jack Doumbia. Huibregtse shoots the three at a 37.5% clip as he averaged 13.5 points per game while Doumbia also averaged double-digit (11.8) points this year.

With the Colonials in uncharted territories, the game against the Raiders on Thursday evening is the program’s biggest and most anticipated matchup since the 2019-20 season when they clinched a berth for the NCAA Tournament.

If the Colonials beat the Raiders in Thursday’s rubber match, Robert Morris will head to Indianapolis for the semifinal round of the Horizon League Tournament.
