Robert Morris WBB Adds Former WPIAL Standout Through Transfer Portal
The newest iteration of the Robert Morris women’s basketball roster is being formed around two returning All-Horizon League players and a handful of other key returners but that did not stop head coach Chandler McCabe from adding a talented guard to the team which lost a sizable chunk of production this offseason with three key guards graduating.
McCabe and her staff landed two transfer portal players to kick off the offseason and one is a former WPIAL standout from Hampton High School as Meghan Murray officially signed with the Colonials on Wednesday.
Murray signed with Kent State out of high school and played in 58 games, making two starts, over her two seasons with the Golden Flashes. She averaged 1.8 points and 1.1 assists in a reduced role as a sophomore, though as a freshman, Murray played nearly double the minutes than she did this past season and averaged 2.9 points while shooting 37% from the field and from three.
In high school, Murray was a scoring threat and averaged over 20 points per game as a senior. She became Hampton’s all-time leading scorer and passed current Robert Morris assistant coach and former Hampton star Laryn Edwards in the process.
Murray joins a strong nucleus of returners which include All-Horizon Third Team wing Myriam Traore and All-Horizon Defensive Team forward Eva Levingston, in addition to Ava Leroux, London Creach, Mallory Daly, Sanai Troutman and incoming freshman Layla Hale and Teigh Yeast.
Murray joins a Robert Morris squad that lost most of its guard production from last season due to their top three guards, Aislin Malcolm, Jada Lee and Noa Givon, running out of eligibility and will come in with the chance to compete for key minutes in her first season with the team.
Including Murray and the other signee from Wednesday, the Robert Morris roster is at eight scholarship players which means there will not be nearly as much turnover this offseason compared to last offseason. Realistically, McCabe and her staff will add around four to six more players through the transfer portal as last year’s roster composed of 14 players.
