MOON TWP, Pa. — After leading Robert Morris to its first ever trip to Indianapolis for the Horizon League semifinals in just her first year as a head coach, the university rewarded Chandler McCabe with a new contract extension, according to Talia Goodman of On3 Sports.

McCabe led the Colonials to their most single-season wins in the last five seasons as well as a fourth-place finish in both of the regular season and the Horizon League Championships. The Colonials additionally hosted their first ever Horizon League tournament game at the UPMC Events Center.

All of that combined resulted in the Robert Morris administration signing McCabe to an extension.

While the two parties have yet to release the exact terms of the agreement, sources confirmed to Robert Morris Sports Now that the extension is for one year on top of what was remaining on her original contract. Regardless, the Colonials managed to lock up one of the fastest-rising head coaches in all of women’s college basketball.

Chandler McCabe was named the seventh head coach in the history of Robert Morris women’s basketball on March 18, 2024.

McCabe joined the Colonials after spending the 2023-24 season at University of Central Florida as an assistant to head coach Sytia Messer.

Prior to her time in her native state of Florida, the Orlando native spent two seasons as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at George Mason under head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis. During the 2022-23 season, McCabe helped lead the Patriots claim their first winning season in 17 seasons and their first ever .500 record since joining the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Before she followed Blair-Lewis to George Mason, McCabe spent seven more seasons under her mentor as the associate head coach at Bethune-Cookman.

Over her last five seasons with the team, the duo led the Lady Wildcats to a 120-65 overall record and a 77-19 MEAC record which included the most single-season wins with 24 and most single-season MEAC wins with 15 in the 2017-18 season.

Additionally, McCabe was part of the staff at Bethune-Cookman that won four MEAC Regular Season Championships and clinched the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

Now that McCabe got her extension, she can turn her full focus, to reloading her roster after a historic first season in Hoop Township which she has already begun doing. The Colonials have received three transfer commitments in this recruiting cycle with more potentially on the horizon.
