The harsh reality is that in today’s world of college basketball, it’s not easy to coach at mid-major programs like Robert Morris.

With the advent of the transfer portal, the bottom line is that when programs like Robert Morris develop players into ‘stars’, there’s a good chance those players will then test the free agent market to gauge their value.

Over the last 24 hours, that’s what has happened with the 2025 NCAA Tournament Robert Morris Colonial team.

On Monday, the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Amarion Dickerson entered the Transfer Portal after spending one season with RMU after playing his first two seasons at Mineral Area College (JUCO).

Then this morning, Dickerson’s running mate and part of RMU’s dynamic front court, Alvaro Folgueiras decided to join him in the portal.

This past season, the 6’9″ sophomore from Spain was named the Horizon League Player of the Year after averaging 13.9 points, 9 rebounds and shooting 41% from 3-point range. Those numbers were a huge jump from his freshman season at RMU when he averaged 5.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and shot 28% from 3-point range.

The potential loss of these two players obviously is not what the RMU program wanted but considering Andy Toole’s resume of recruiting and developing players, along with the NIL resources that RMU has, look for them to be able to bring in talent to replace them.

One other thing to keep in mind, just because Dickerson and Folgueiras are in the portal, that doesn’t mean they won’t return to Robert Morris.

All eyes now are on guard Kam Woods to see what he decides to do- return to RMU or enter the portal?
