MOON TWP, Pa. — On Wednesday, CollegeInsider.com announced the finalists for the Riley Wallace Award, given annually to the most impactful transfer player in Division-I college basketball.

Robert Morris guard Kam Woods along with 29 other players were nominated as finalists for the award. Woods transferred to Robert Morris after going to the Final Four last season with the N.C. State Wolfpack.

Woods earned All-Horizon League Second-Team honors in his first season with the Colonials after he led the team in minutes per game, points per game and assists per game through the regular season and the Horizon League Championships.

With at least one more game remaining, Woods has averaged a staggering 36 minutes per game, while contributing 15.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.

Woods’ collegiate career started at Troy in 2020 where he started 12 games as a freshman. Woods then went to JUCO Northwest Florida State for a season before he transferred to N.C. A&T. He started 30 games for the Aggies in 2022 and posted a career year scoring the basketball as he averaged 17.3 points per game.

Following his breakout season, Woods jumped to the Power-4 level and choose to play in the ACC at N.C. State. While he only appeared in 13 games with no starts for the Wolfpack, he was apart of a historic team that went from long-shot ACC Tournament hopefuls to NCAA Tournament Final Four participants.

Heading into, what might end up being, his final collegiate basketball season, Woods wanted to play a significant role on a team again and decided to commit to Andy Toole and Robert Morris. That decision helped out each party as Woods is enjoying another breakout campaign and the Colonials are dancing into the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Colonials are Woods’ fifth college team but a new court ruling granted Woods an additional year of eligibility due to his season at JUCO Northwest Florida State. While it is unknown if Woods returns to the Colonials next season or college in general, the door is now open for it.

Regardless, the Riley Wallace finalist and the rest of the Colonials have a tall task ahead of the on Friday as they take on No. 2 seed Alabama in the NCAA Tournament.
