When the final buzzer sounded at the Corteva Coliseum in the semifinal loss against Detroit Mercy, the offseason officially started for the Robert Morris men’s basketball program.

After nearly two weeks of little news regarding any transfer portal departures, the first major domino of the offseason finally when starting forward Nikolaos Chitikoudis announced his intentions of entering the portal to Sam Kayser of LeagueRDY.

Chitikoudis, who transferred to Robert Morris last offseason after spending his first two years of college at North Carolina A&T, helped lead the Colonials to a second-consecutive 20-win season and another trip to Indy for the league semifinal round.

The 6-foot-9, 215-pound junior from Greece was a mainstay in the starting lineup for Andy Toole this season as he started 27 of his 32 game appearances and went on to earn All-Horizon Defensive Team honors.

While his defensive game vastly improved as the season went on, Chitikoudis was a solid offensive contributor and a forced on the glass for the Colonials all season long as he averaged 11.3 points per game on 54.7% shooting and finished second on the team with 7.7 rebounds per game. He ended the season with 10 double-doubles.

When the season ended for the Colonials in Indianapolis, everybody in the building knew that some of the guys on the team just played their last game ever under Andy Toole, a new harsh reality for many mid-major programs across the nation as many look to parlay solid seasons into bigger and better opportunities.

With the news of Chitikoudis’ departure, at least a partial rebuild is all but imminent for Toole and his staff at Robert Morris.

Chitikoudis joins graduates such as Albert Vargas, Kaleb Brown and Ubong Okan as players that will not be returning to Moon Township next season, but with the NCAA Tournament just starting, more guys will surely join them in the coming days and weeks.
