MOON TWP, Pa. — The Robert Morris men’s basketball team has accomplished many “firsts” this season and the latest one to be checked off of the list is a first-round bye in the Horizon League Tournament. It is the first time that the Colonials have clinched a bye since joining the league in 2020.

The Colonials were not expected to be good this season, in fact, they were picked ninth in the league’s preseason rankings but to everyones surprise, they are just half-of-a-game out of first place in the Horizon League. While the top overall seed is definitely in play, the Colonials could potentially finish as low as fifth and have to play a road playoff game in the second round.

The league’s top-five teams each currently have 12 or more conference wins which means the final standing will not be determined until the conclusion of the last regular season game.

Out of the top-five teams in the league, Robert Morris, Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown St. each have two games left while Cleveland St. and Milwaukee have three remaining.

The second round games are scheduled for Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. with the top-four finishers hosting the games. While the opponents for the top-three will be determined after the first round games, the fourth-place finisher will host the fifth-place team no matter the outcome of the first round.

If the Colonials were to advance to the semifinals, they would travel to the Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis on Monday, March 10, 2025 with a potential championship appearance the following day. The winner of the Horizon League Tournament receives the league’s auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Other notable achievements that the Robert Morris program has accomplished this season include their first 20-win season since 2019, most wins in a season since 2013 and a program-record 28-0 run.

The Colonials close out their home schedule on Sunday when they host third-place Milwaukee before playing their regular season finale on the road at IU-Indy on Thursday.

Robert Morris has defeated both of these teams already this season and if they win out, they will clinch at least the second seed based off of tiebreakers.
