Robert Morris WBB Takes Down UIC in Season Opener
The Robert Morris women’s basketball program is on the up-and-up under second-year head coach Chandler McCabe.
After securing a fourth-place finish in the Horizon League a season ago, their best finish since joining the league, McCabe’s squad is projected to finish even better this season.
McCabe and her new look roster reinforced that projection in game one of the 2025-26 season as they downed a challenging Illinois-Chicago squad on the road by the score of 78-63.

The Colonials jumped out to a quick 7-4 lead in the first quarter after transfer guard Aislin Malcolm hit a midrange and a three to start the game.
The Flames quickly battled back and carried a 21-14 lead into the second quarter in large part because of Jessica Carrothers’ 8 first-quarter points.
The game changed for the Colonials in the second quarter as they begun to shut down any scoring chances for the Flames.
The Colonials’ defensive efforts turned into offensive chances on the other end which helped them go on a 14-0 run that turned into a 20-6 second quarter in favor of Robert Morris.
The Colonials took a 34-27 lead into halftime and did not take the foot off of the gas once the second half started.
Malcolm picked up right where she left off in the first half and managed to rack up 19 points by the end of the third quarter. The Colonials were also boosted by the play of fellow transfer Bailey Kuhns, who turned it on after a slow first quarter.
The offensive explosion by Malcolm and Kuhns helped the Colonials extend their lead to 14 points by the end of the third.
With a double-digit lead, and with Malcolm who seemed to be able to score at ease, the Colonials cruised in the fourth quarter to the 15-point lead.
Malcolm ended with 26 points in her Robert Morris debut as she shot 10-of-20 from the field.
Kuhns and Noa Givon each added 13 points while the Colonials managed to play 14 players and come away with the season-opening win.
McCabe and her team return to the UPMC Events Center on Friday to play host to MAC-foe Akron in the Colonials’ home opener.
