Robert Morris WBB Receives First Commitment for Class of 2027
It has been a busy couple of weeks on the recruiting front for Robert Morris women’s basketball head coach Chandler McCabe.
While it is known that recruiting is a year long job for college coaches, especially in today’s world of NIL, the fruits of that labor is not enjoyed until a player commits.
Well, over the past two weeks, Robert Morris has been feasting due to the handwork put in from their staff over the past several weeks and months.
Two weeks ago, McCabe and her staff bolstered the Class of 2026 by landing one of the program’s “priority” recruits.
Then, to start this week off, the Class of 2027 gained its first pledge as Robert Morris landed one of the WPIAL’s best shooters in Thomas Jefferson’s Kaylee DeAngelo.
I am beyond grateful to announce my commitment to Robert Morris University! I want to thank my parents, the Bruins organization, TJ girls basketball, Ronnie Drennen, and Temple Haynes. Go colonials! pic.twitter.com/m4W8Ebqws9

DeAngelo’s rise to become a future Division-I hooper started long ago but she started to make a name for herself as a freshman at Oakland Catholic under former head coach and current Colonials’ assistant coach Eddie Benton.
At Oakland Catholic, DeAneglo, Benton and current Robert Morris freshman London Creach guided the school to a 26-3 record, a WPIAL semifinals appearance and a PIAA quarterfinals appearance.
Following her freshman season, DeAngelo transferred to Thomas Jefferson, the same school her older sister, Alyssa, dominated at when prior to her collegiate career at Fairmont State.
Upon her arrival at TJ, DeAngelo teamed up with fellow Division-I talent, Campbell commit Maggie Spell.
This past season, DeAngelo and Spell each earned Class-5A All-Section honors after the duo guided the Jaguars to a WPIAL semifinal appearance.
Congratulations to Kaylee DeAngelo, Maggie Spell and Riley McCabe for being recognized by the BIG 56 Coaches of Class 5A Section 4 as All Section awardees. @Big56Conference @maggiespell2026 @KayleeDeangelo @Riley_McCabe22 @WPABruinsAAU @SLAAMBASKETBALL pic.twitter.com/1yqjWu1T8b

DeAngelo committed to Colonials over other options which included Akron, Colgate, Delaware, Manhattan, and Youngstown State.
While DeAngelo’s commitment to Robert Morris will not only immediately provide the Colonials with a skilled sharpshooter upon her arrival, it will give the trio of herself, Creach and Benton another chance to go for a championship together, just this time at the Division-I level.
