The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history after winning the Northeast Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonials entered the tournament as the league’s No. 2-seed and knocked off No. 3-seed Long Island in a thriller on Thursday before taking down No. 4-seed Detroit Mercy in the championship game, 17-8.

The Colonials won the NEC Tournament twice before this year as they went back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 before they departed the conference for the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2020. Robert Morris won the ASUN Tournament in 2022.

Detroit Mercy kicked the scoring off in Saturday’s championship game just over a minute-and-a-half into the first period but Robert Morris answered with a fierce offensive onslaught as they scored four unanswered goals over the remaining 13 minutes of the period to take a 4-1 lead into the second.

The Colonials would score six more goals before the Titans found an answer which allowed Robert Morris to jump out to a 10-2 lead. Each team scored once more before the halftime intermission as the Colonials held a commanding 11-3 lead at the break.

The Titans managed to crawl back into the game in the third period as they outscored the Colonials 4-1 in the period with the lone friendly goal coming from Thursday’s hero, Bobby Reaume.

The Colonials opened the fourth period up by scoring three-straight goals which extended their lead to 15-7 with just 10:33 left in the game. The Titans squeaked one more goal across but the Colonials knocked in two more before the final horn as they won by the score of 17-8.

Calum Brennan led the Colonials with four goals on Saturday while Kean Moon, David Burr and Nick Pelletier all tallied two goals each.

Zach Tucker, Brian Simmons, Tommy Mullikin, Luke Prezioso, Liam Keane, Joel McCormick and Reaume all scored one goal each in the championship win over Detroit Mercy.

Robert Morris has one NCAA Tournament win under its belt as it defeated Canisius in the play-in round back in 2018 before falling to top-seeded Maryland in the First Round. The Colonials fell in the opening round of their other two previous NCAA Tournament appearances.

The 2025 NCAA Tournament begins with its play-in round on Wednesday, May 7.
