The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history after winning the Northeast Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonials won the NEC Tournament twice before this year as they went back-to-back in 2018 and 2019 before they departed the conference for the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2020. Robert Morris won the ASUN Tournament in 2022.

Robert Morris will host Air Force on Wednesday, May 7, at Joe Walton Stadium as the automatic qualifier from the NEC. The Colonials have one NCAA Tournament win in program history as they beat Canisius in the play-in round back in 2018.

So, how did the Colonials make it back to the Big Dance? Well, it started with the Colonials dropping the first two games of the season by a combined score of 34-13 before they won their next three outings. By the time that conference play opened up, the Colonials were peaking as they went 6-1 in-league play with the lone loss coming to regular-season champion Le Moyne.

Robert Morris then entered the tournament as the league’s No. 2-seed and knocked off No. 3-seed Long Island in a thriller before taking down No. 4-seed Detroit Mercy in the championship game, 17-8.

The all-conference play from a handful of guys on the roster helped fuel the dominate season. The Colonials placed nine players on the NEC All-Conference teams while two of their players walked away with two of the biggest individual accolades as face-off specialist Bo Columbus took home the NEC Player of the Year Award and attacker David Burr won the NEC Offensive Player of the Year Award.

With that, the Colonials are back in a familiar position, atop the Northeast Conference and inside of the NCAA Tournament field.
