Robert Morris MBB Scheduled to Take On Big-10 Program in Season Opener

The first game of Robert Morris’ Horizon League title defense will take place on the road against a power-four opponent. Last year, the Colonials headed down to Morgantown for a season-opener against West Virginia but this year the Colonials will head towards Central America for a brawl with a Big-1o program.
While the Colonials have yet to release their schedule or any games at all for the 2025-26 season, Iowa posted the date, time and opponent of its first game under newly signed head coach Ben McCollum on X on Tuesday afternoon and it so happens to be against the Colonials.

While the roster that Robert Morris head coach Andy Toole will run out in Iowa City with is still to be determined, the Colonials and Toole will head to Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Nov. 4, 2025 in what appears as the first game of the season for either team.
The Robert Morris men’s basketball program traveled to Iowa City back in December of 2005 to face off against the Hawkeyes. The Colonials fell to the Hawkeyes in that game by a score of 73-51 which was the only time that the two programs met on the hardwood.
After seven players from Robert Morris’ Horizon League Champion squad, including all five starters, entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason, it is unknown what the roster will look like when it takes on the Hawkeyes in November.
As for the Hawkeyes, the game against the Colonials will usher in the McCollum era at the university. Iowa hired McCollum after he spent just one season as a head coach at the Division-I level. He helped lead Drake 31-4 record and guided the Bulldogs to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his time at Drake, McCollum was one of the best coaches ever at the Division-II level as he led Northwest Missouri State to four Division-II Championships while he personally amassed five Division-II Coach of the Year Awards.
