The Colonials’ squad will be captained by a trio of seniors this season as defender Jillian Marvin, forward Paloma Swankler, and midfielder Taylor Day were all selected as the team’s leaders.
Marvin and Swankler are serving as captains for a second-straight season while Day will be a first-timer.
Last season, Marvin was the epitome of durability as she played every possible minute of every game in 2024. Offensively, she tallied three assists and scored the game-winning goal in the Colonials’ overtime against IU Indy in the Horizon League Quarterfinals.
Swankler also starred for the Colonials a season ago as she led the offense with six goals and five assists, which ranked her among the top five in the conference. She earned her Horizon League All-League Second Team honors for her efforts in 2024.
Day takes a leadership role this season being a key contributor to the Colonials’ playoff push a season ago. Day scored four goals last year including one in each of the Colonials’ final three regular season games.
“We’re proud to name Jillian, Paloma, and Taylor as our captains for the 2025 season,” head coach Michelle Rick said in a statement released earlier in the week. “They represent what we want Robert Morris Women’s Soccer to be about in their character, competitive drive and all-in mentality. Jill and Paloma bring valuable experience as returning captains, and Taylor has stepped up in a big way as a leader on and off the field over the last year. This group is committed to setting the tone every day and holding us to the high standards we’ve built. We’re excited to chase a Horizon League title with them leading the way.”
According to the preseason rankings, the league’s coaches projected Robert Morris as the fourth-best team in the Horizon League.
While that is high-praise, Rick and her squad believe that the 2025 season could be a special one. The Colonials will begin their quest at a conference title at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday when they host Navy at the North Athletic Complex.
