A lot has happened in the Pittsburgh soccer scene over the last month.

While the big news came when the Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced an expansion of Highmark Stadium, many college clubs have kicked off their season including the defending Horizon League Champions, Robert Morris.

In the Colonials’ second game of the young season, Robert Morris traveled down to the Bluff to take on crosstown rival Duquesne in a match that saw the two clubs trade blows before it ultimately ended in a draw.

Duquesne started the game with two early corners, but the defense from Robert Morris allowed nothing to come of it.

The early defensive resiliency gave the Colonials the time to settle in on the offensive side of things as they eventually took control of the time of possession.

The Colonials’ pressure eventually led to the game’s first goal which came in the 25th minute.

The goal came after a throw-in from William Dodzi Afawubo allowed Victor Thompson to put a header right on the money to the back post where Jack Bejarano tapped it in.

The Colonialsused the momentum that they gained from the first goal to score just minutes later which came off of the foot of freshman Royie Rahamim, the first of his collegiate career.

Rahamim managed to score the Colonials’ second goal of the game on a header. The goal came following a free kick from Anass Hadran that hit off of the post and bounced right to the sprinting Rahamim.

Just as it looked as if the Colonials were in control of the match, the Dukes answered with a goal just four minutes after which cut Duquesne’s deficit to just one.

Robert Morris carried a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Dukes’ first goal of the game that came just before the intermission gave them the energy and confidence to rally as they dominated the Colonials in possession for most of the second half.

Despite fending off the pressure from the Dukes for about 30 minutes in the second half, the Colonials surrendered the equalizer with about 10 minutes left in the match. The goal was the last of the game by either squad as the game ended in a tie, 2-2.

With an 0-0-2 record, Robert Morris will look to win its first game of the season when the Colonials visit Mount St. Mary’s next Monday afternoon.
