After picking up their first conference win of the season last week, Robert Morris (3-6, 2-2) carried that momentum into this week as they fended off a second-quarter outburst to defeat Stonehill (3-6, 2-2) by the score 0f 20-17.

The Colonials used a pair of touchdowns by two separate tight ends, Chaz Middleton and Richard Ransom, and another 100-plus rushing yard game from Ethan Shine to secure the team’s second-consecutive victory.

Robert Morris received the opening kick and immediately went to work with Shine and Middleton. The drive featured three carries from Shine and three catches by Middleton with the third being a 36-yard touchdown on a strike down the sideline from quarterback Zach Tanner.

The Skyhawks looked to match the Colonials’ opening-drive touchdown with a score of their own as they made it into plus-territory before turning the ball over on downs on an attempted fourth down run.

The Colonials’ offense was not able to extend its lead on the ensuing drive which gave the Skyhawks the ball back trailing by just seven.

Again, the Skyhawks engineered a drive that got them all the way down to the Colonials’ 17-yard line. Unlike the first drive, the Skyhawks punched the ball into the end zone on a connection between quarterback Jack O’Connell and tight end Cody Ruff.

The Colonials added a 44-yard field goal on the next drive to re-claim the lead but that was short lived as the Skyhawks added another touchdown and a field goal of their own before the end of the second quarter.

Robert Morris trailed 17-10 at halftime.

The Colonials managed to chip into the Skyhawks’ lead late in the third quarter on another Jayson Jenkins field goal. The score was set up due to a turnover at the Skyhawks’ 15-yard line.

After forcing a punt to end the third quarter, the Colonials got the ball back and engineered a go-ahead 12-play touchdown drive that was capped off on an 18-yard touchdown connection between Tanner and Ransom.

The Skyhawks trailed by just three with 9:41 left in the game but turned the ball over on each of the last two offensive possessions that they had in the game.

The Skyhawks made it past midfield on the first drive before O’Connell lost a fumble on a short rushing play and then the defense forced another turnover-on-downs to ice the game later in the quarter.

Robert Morris wrapped up its three-game road trip with two conference victories and now heads back home to host Wagner on Saturday. The win over Stonehill moved Robert Morris into a tie for third-place in the NEC.
