While the transfer portal is hot for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams right now, the Robert Morris women’s hockey team just landed a player via the portal. Ellie Marcovsky is not just any player but one that skated for the Colonials before.

The Colonials landed Marcovsky when she decided to transfer out of Princeton after spending four seasons there. The kicker is that Marcovsky actually started her college hockey career at Robert Morris.

Marcovsky committed to Robert Morris after playing her high school hockey inside of the city of Pittsburgh at Mt. Lebanon High School. During her freshman year of college in 2020, she appeared in a 25 games for the Colonials and she tallied career-highs in goals, assists and points.

After scoring eight goals, tallying 10 assists and recording 18 total points for the Colonials in 2020, Marcovsky transferred to Princeton where she spent the next four seasons.

In her first year at the Ivy League school, Marcovsky appeared in a career-high 30 games for the Tigers. In her extended look as a sophomore, Marcovsky scored just one goal and recorded five assists.

Her role decreased during her junior season as she appeared in just 11 games and recorded no points for the Tigers in 2022. Marcovsky’s role continued to go down during her senior season as she failed to register an appearance in any of the Tigers’ games.

Following her tenure at Princeton where she did not play much at all, it could be assumed that Marcovsky wanted the chance to play significant minutes during her final year of eligibility and what better place to come than one that she is familiar with.

While Robert Morris was once a home for Marcovsky, another benefit for her returning is potential playing time. The Colonials endured a disappointing season where they went 8-24-3 overall and 2-16-2 in conference play.

While last year’s horrid record does not guarantee her a significant role, it is a better situation for Marcovsky as she at least has a chance to play again.

The Colonials need more help than just Marcovsky if they want to rebound after last season but that does not mean that she is not a immediate help to the team.
