Robert Morris did not see any of its players drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, but one player is still headed to the next level as defensive back Rob Carter Jr. signed a contract with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.

After the 2025 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens invited Carter to their rookie mini-camp. He attended the camp last week but the Ravens decided to not sign him to an NFL contract.

That experience led him to exploring other options to extend his football career which ultimately led him to signing with the BC Lions. Carter will now head up to Canada as the Lions’ camp opens this coming week.

Carter played his final two collegiate seasons at Robert Morris where he even went viral for his ridiculous interception against Utah State in the Colonials’ 2024 season opener. He amassed 66 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and five interceptions  across 22 games.

He hauled in four of his five interceptions as a senior and even started to play on the offensive side of the ball by the end of the season as he made two catches for 12 yards. Additionally, Carter excelled as a kick returner and even scored a kick return touchdown against Central Connecticut State this past season.

Prior to his time at Robert Morris, Carter attended the University of Virginia at Wise, where he played in 22 games and recorded 77 tackles while starring on special teams.

While Carter ultimately went undrafted and will not make an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent this season, him signing with a CFL team is a positive, not only for him but the Robert Morris football program.

If the Colonials are to become annual contenders in the NEC, they need to attract high-level recruits which will become more of a possibility if head coach Bernard Clark can continue pushing players into the next levels of the game.
