College Basketball Season Nears as Local Teams Host First Official Practice

The college basketball season is near.

College hoops teams around the Division One level held their first official practice on Monday, marking the first day of the 2023-24 preseason.

Pitt is looking to build off of its first NCAA Tournament appearance of the Jeff Capel era, following up last year’s season with a solid transfer class and a bright freshmen class. The Panthers brought in freshmen Jaland Lowe, Carlton Carrington, Papa Kante, and Marlon Barnes, while transfers Ishmael Leggett (Rhode Island), Zack Austin (High Point), and Mike Hueitt Jr. (Catawba D2) also joined the squad.

Duquesne brought back as much talent as the program has had in years while also recruiting a talented transfer class. Tre Williams, Dae Dae Grant and Jimmy Clark III will look to lead the Dukes once more, along with transfers Andrei Savrasov, Dusan Mahorcic, Fousseyni Drame, and Hassan Drame. 

Andy Toole’s Robert Morris Colonials had a strong offseason as well, adding LSU transfer Justice Williams to the roster along with talented forward Markeese Hastings (Western Michigan transfer). RMU also returns guard Josh Corbin, as well as Stephaun Walker and Jackson Last.The college hoops season starts on Nov. 6.
