The Robert Morris women’s lacrosse team moved into first place of the Mid-American Conference with its triple overtime win over Kent State on Saturday. The Colonials managed to take the game by the score of 8-7 after allowing four unanswered goals in the fourth which sent the game to overtime.

With the win, the Colonials clinched a spot in the MAC Championships as they are now 6-9 overall on the season but own a 4-1 conference record which is the best across the conference to this point in the season.

Robert Morris jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind goals from Vivian LaMange and Mia Berthoff before the Golden Flash scored the final three goals of the first quarter. The Colonials quickly found themselves back in the lead after Jenna Irwin scored two consecutive goals to open the second quarter.

The Golden Flash knotted the game up at four goals a piece after scoring on a man advantage but the Colonials once again jumped ahead before halftime when Greta Burns scored her second goal of the season on a man advantage.

Samantha Brothers scored the game’s only goal of the third quarter which extended the Colonials’ lead to 6-4 before the final frame of action. The Colonials extended their lead again a few minutes into the fourth quarter on a goal from Jade Doldo.

Over the final 10 minutes of the game, the Golden Flash did everything that they could to battle back as they scored three unanswered goals to send the game into overtime. Neither team managed to net a goal in the first two overtime periods and it looked to be the same for the third overtime period until Taylor Cadeau scored the game-winning goal with just 1:27 left on the clock.

While Irwin paced the Colonials with two goals, they received solid contributions from a handful of players. In total, seven different Colonials scored a goal in the thrilling win over Kent State.

Following the win over the Golden Flash, Robert Morris has just two regular season games left. With the last one coming against Akron, Robert Morris has the opportunity to win the conference’s regular season title outright if all goes according to plan over the final two games.
